Introducing the Neighbors Excelling Together Program!

NExTIn early 2009, Bay Area LISC rolled out its Neighbors Excelling Together program (NExT), a holistic, community-driven approach to transforming neighborhoods. The program engages local residents and stakeholders to build solutions in housing, economic well-being, education, healthy lifestyles, and financial literacy.

NExT is being implemented in nine Bay Area communities with a particular focus on the Excelsior and Chinatown neighborhoods in San Francisco and Nystrom in Richmond. To read more about the NExT Program, please visit the program's new website, www.bayareanext.org, which highlights news and events occurring in our target neighborhoods.

This week the website features stories and videos on:

Getting Started with Green Preservation

A New Guide to Issues and Resources for Greening Existing Affordable Housing

Getting Started with Green PreservationA silver lining to these tough economic times is the heightened attention now being paid to the stewardship of existing resources, and that includes the tremendous stock of existing affordable housing. Last year, Bay Area LISC published the Green Guide to Rehab, an easy to read guide designed to inform affordable housing owners about green building practices and technologies. This year we collaborated with our national office on the release of a new companion publication available for free download:

Getting Started with Green Preservation: Guide to Issues and Resources for Greening Existing Affordable Housing

This is a step-by-step guide to help affordable housing developers plan a green rehabilitation project in the context of an affordable housing preservation transaction, either through a recapitalization by an existing owner or the purchase and rehabilitation of an at-risk affordable housing project. The guide also provides an overview of financing programs for green preservation transactions as well as a detailed list of resources for greening existing affordable housing. » Hear a webcast on this topic.
