New Study Examines Affordable Housing in Silicon Valley

Bay Area LISC and Charities Housing are pleased to announce Housing Silicon Valley: A 20 Year Plan to End the Affordable Housing Crisis. The study quantifies the scale of the affordable housing crisis in Santa Clara County, one of the most expensive regions in the nation, finding that more than 40,000 households currently experience severe housing needs. A further 90,000 new affordable housing units must be built in the next twenty years and $200 million invested annually in order to provide adequate housing.
Housing Silicon Valley has already spurred action. Over the coming months, a Blue Ribbon Commission made up of public and private leaders and housing experts are meeting to develop practical strategies and provide the leadership necessary to move Silicon Valley forward. Chaired by Santa Clara County Supervisor Don Gage and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, the Blue Ribbon Commission will meet through the fall to develop and adopt an action plan to help end homelessness and solve the affordable housing crisis in Silicon Valley.
